About Us

Meet Tamara from Moldavia and Pooya from Iran (former Persia): partners in Persian carpets and in life. They have found each other in their love for oriental carpets and for each other.
Pooya's mother was a carpet knotter and so Pooya grew up among the carpets. For years we have been making people happy with beautiful, sustainable works of art that last a lifetime.

Why Tapijt &
Kelim?

Every year we travel to the East to search historic villages for the most unique carpets. We only consider our mission a success when we have found what we were looking for! As a result, we own the most special, exclusive and valuable carpets.

FAQs

Our name is a compound. The word 'carpet' comes from the Old French word 'tapis', meaning 'cloth' or 'carpet'. The word 'kilim' comes from the Persian word 'gelīm, which means 'covering'. It refers to the fact that kilim rugs were originally used as upholstery for furniture and as flooring in houses and tents. Weaving kilim rugs is an ancient tradition that is still carried on in many parts of the world, but they were originally woven in various regions of the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa. Kilims are woven without a pile, which means that the threads are flat on both sides of the carpet. This makes them suitable as a rug, but also as wall decoration, tablecloth or even as a covering for furniture. Kilims are often made of wool, cotton or silk and are known for their colorful patterns and geometric designs. Kilim rugs are popular for their durability, beauty and versatility.
